Being a small girl, Raqia already dreamed of becoming a great dancer. So, it came to no surprise that she joined the world-renown Reda Troup in 1964. Mahmoud Read lead the group,
and she very quickly excelled to great success.
Mahmoud Reda had the vision to maintain Egyptian Folklore through performances. He was able to polish the image of folklore dance in the Arab public. This lead to the group travelling the world, giving many performances.

Cairo - a city with own rules

I travelled to Cairo for the first time in 1989 where I was immediately overwhelmed by this city of differences. Poverty lives next door to prosperity and nobody cares. That is just the way it is! The opposite is the case. Everybody feels that he is part of this big city wheel of life, which turns and turns. Cairo counts about 18-20 Million inhabitants. This number easily increases up to 24-25 Milliion people when the commuters enter the city each morning. ... more
